The Andhra Pradesh government has teamed up with world’s leading software company Microsoft, and International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), to develop a sowing application, for assisting farmers to achieve optimal harvests from their farms. This app shall advise the farmers regarding the best time to sow crops under different weather conditions, besides providing many other critical inputs.
The app is designed with a personalized village advisory dashboard, to provide impactful cloud-based predictive analytics, which can disseminate useful information to the farmers. In this manner, the farmers can take up multiple cropping on the farms while considering the climate change, soil conditions appropriate for growth of crops etc.
Planning and being prepared with crop-growing models, will let the farmers reduce crop failures and increase crop productivity from their farmlands. The stress on farmers shall also lessen with the digital agriculture initiative, hence providing better income prospects to them. Such an initiative was urgent, and its implementation can drive positive change in the Indian agriculture sector. The stakeholders and investors in agriculture can get inspired with this initiative as well.
While looking towards digital revolution, work can be done in the direction of finding ways of obtaining more from less. In the wake of rising demand for crops, the dependence on land and water increases. Getting better irrigation methods on farms like drip irrigation helps in saving water and results in better productivity. After providing information of the climatic conditions to the farmers through the sowing app, farmers can be made aware regarding the commodity prices in the market through digital apps.
At Agrocorp, we believe in providing our farmers with the right training and skills to increase their efficiency, in understanding the farmlands better and from a different point of view. To make sure that the resources are not wasted, especially water, drip irrigation method is in practise at Agrocorp farms in Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh.
